#1105 new defect

Hide tooltips once button is pressed

Reported by: Josh Matthews Owned by:
Priority: Nice to Have Milestone: Backlog
Component: Core engine Keywords:
Cc: Patch:

Description

When I'm hovering over a button (such as creating a unit), the tooltip appears and covers the area in which the unit's training icon appears. This means that there is no immediate feedback when you press the button, which caught me by surprise the first time I played. We should hide the tooltip when the button is clicked to avoid this problem.

We should hide the tooltip when the button is clicked to avoid this problem.

One reason for not doing this is that the tooltip includes a help message for batch training (shift+clicking). Maybe we can change how the tooltip is positioned relative to the cursor so it's less of an issue.

I'm sure it can be improved, so don't take this as an argument against doing something, but isn't the adding of a unit to the queue feedback enough?

I remember being surprised and confused by the lack of any visible response after I pressed the button my first time playing, and it still caught me out a few times after that. I argue that feedback that cannot be seen is not the best feedback.

Part of the problem is that even the unit queue can be hidden completely behind the tooltip.

Ideally we'd have a "click" sound when buttons are pressed, of course that doesn't help if sound is muted or not working, so I do think at least part of the button should always be visible. It should never be fully obscured by a tooltip. What if the tooltips were slightly transparent so UI elements behind them were still visible?

How about hiding the tooltip when a train order is placed? That way it will remain while you are ratcheting up the batch size, but still be hidden in time to show the order being added to the production queue.
