Multiplayer Problems

Description

I have never reported a problem on any game before, but I really like this game and want to play it with my friends.

I have been having problems hosting a server with my friends. I have port forwarded and made sure that 0 A.D. is allowed through my firewall. I have followed all the steps on this: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/Manual_SettingUpAGame#no1

I am not using the multiplayer lobby. I am simply using the join/host game buttons you get when you click multiplayer.I also have made sure I have the latest build. I have followed all the steps on the manual, but none of my friends can join me. Have I missed something? btw I am using Windows 7

(This should really go on the forums http://wildfiregames.com/forum/ as that is not really a bug in the code. Well #2305 is related but that already exists.)

Some of this might seem useless but a single mistake could be the cause (so please check them):

  • Is the forwarding set up correctly (UDP 20595, correct internal IP, correct network (some routers have multiple), rule activated and not just added, etc)?
  • Does the firewall (check that there is really only one running) allow the game to accept connections?
  • Does your router require a restart after activating a rule? If yes, did that restart maybe assign you a new IP via DHCP?
  • Is UPnP activated and possibly conflicting with the rule you added? (Should not make a difference but some routers have the weirdest issues sometimes)
  • Do other forwarding rules (eg other games that need forwarding) work?
  • Have you asked your ISP if you can actually host stuff and are not behind a carrier-grade NAT (some ISPs have business offerings where you have an IP for yourself instead of sharing it with other customers)?

The host dialog uses the same code as the lobby for actually hosting, so that doesn't really make a difference when getting it to work. Have you tried letting a friend of yours host?

Thank you very much, leper.

I followed your advice and rechecked and made sure everything is working. I am sorry I used this ticket instead of the forum. I tried posting this problem to the forum, but it said I did not have permission. Yes other games work fine on my ports. I play lots of multiplayer games with my friends, and I host private servers for my friends regularly. I have completed each bullet. As I said before I followed all instructions on the manual, and I have port forwarded many games before. I still cannot get it to work. Unfortunately, none of my other friends can host the game, I am the only one who is able to host at the moment.(I am playing with two friends, one doesn't know how to port-forward, and the other is having trouble port-forwarding on his.)

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
