Some techs were forgotten over time in the design docs, So I made a list of the missing ones, that includes some techs for formations that will probably have to wait.

It was eight men deep and over two hundred men wide, and used overlapping shields and combined pushing power. "Othismos" refers to the point in a phalanx battle where both sides try to shove each other out of formation, attempting to breaking up the enemy lines and routing them. The earliest evidence of a sakia is from a Hellenistic tomb painting in Ptolemaic Egypt which dates to the 2nd century BC. It shows a pair of yoked oxen driving a compartmented waterwheel, which is for the first time depicted, too. The Greek sakia gear system is already shown fully developed to the point that modern Egyptian devices are virtually identical. It is assumed that the scientists of the Museum of Alexandria, at the time the most active Greek research center, may have been involved in its invention. An episode from the Alexandrian War in 48 BC tells of how Caesar's enemies employed geared waterwheels to pour sea water from elevated places onto the position of the trapped Romans. (source: Wikipedia) Effect: Increased food production for farm fields.

(Extra Farming Tech 3) Generic Name: Archimedes' Screw. Specific Name: . History: Beginning with Alexander, the Hellenistic monarchs founded many cities throughout their empires, where Greek culture and art blended with local customs to create the motley Hellenistic civilisation. Effect: Civic Centres gain double Health and double default arrows.

Persians:

Name: Naval Craftsmanship History: Early Achaemenid rulers acted towards making Persia the first great Asian empire to rule the seas. The Great King behaved favourably towards the various sea peoples in order to secure their services, but also carried out various marine initiatives. It is said that Chandragupta fielded an army of 600,000 men and 9,000 war elephants (Pliny, Natural History VI, 22.4). Seleucus met with no success and to establish peace between the two great powers and to formalize their alliance, he married his daughter to Chandragupta. In return, Chandragupta gifted Seleucus a corps of 500 war elephants, which would prove a decisive military asset for Seleucus as he fought the rest of Alexander's successors. Effect: A one-time purchase of 20 Indian War Elephants from the Mauryan Empire. Iberians:

It is said that only Spartan women gave birth to real men. Such tough-as-nails women more than once helped save their city from disaster, for example when after a lost battle against Pyrrhus of Epirus they overnight built an earthen rampart to protect the city while their men slept in preparation for the next day's siege. Effect: Spartan female citizens cannot be captured and will doggedly fight back against any attackers. They are also capable of constructing defense towers and palisades.

Name: Tyrtean Paeans. History: Paeans were battle hymns that were sung by the hoplites when they charged the enemy lines. One of the first known Paeans were composed by Tirteus, a warrior poet of Sparta, during the First Messenian War. Effect: Units in phalanx formation move faster.

Name: The Agoge. History: Spartans were housed and trained from a young age to be superlative warriors and to endure any hardship a military life can give them. Effect: Barracks and Syssiton receive a +10 population cap bonus.

Romans :

Name: Marian Reforms History: In response to a Gallic-Germanic invasion, the great Gaius Marius reformed the Roman army, turning it from a part-time militia into a professional military force. Effect: All infantry (Hastatus, Principes, Veles, Triarius, Extraordinarius) instantly upgrade to Marian Legionnaires, a champion swordsman whose only citizen-soldier function is in the building of Army Camps, Siege Walls, and Fortresses. Furthermore, no longer can citizen-soldiers be trained, but rather only Marian Legionnaires. This has a large economic impact and is generally a late-game attempt at a game-changer. Swift Numidian Cavalry unlocked.

Generic Name: Sibylline Books Specific Name: Libri Sibyllini History: The Sibylline Books or 'Libri Sibyllini' were a collection of oracular utterances, set out in Greek hexameters, purchased from a sibyl by the last king of Rome, Tarquinius Superbus, and consulted at momentous crises through the history of the Republic and the Empire. Hi, I've been working on the iberian techs, and since fatherbushido says this is gonna be deleted, at least I wanted to share the work I've been doing, so I can state that this ticket can be done with current tech tools.

Changes:

  • Suzko Txabalina: . 200 wood 200 metal . Age 3 . Gives + 10 destructor damage to all Javelin units (this is provisional cause if this ticket stays I'm gonna update and integrate it with #1912). . Preceeds the two ranged infantry upgrades.
  • Maisu Burdina Langileak . 200 wood 200 stone . Age 2 . ATM it only reduces all unit metal costs in 50% but if this stays I'm gonna extend it to techs.
  • Toledo Steel . To make room for Maisu Burdina Langileak (no more room in blacksmith), it preceeds now the two melee infantry upgrades. Would encourage improving its parameters but currently it stays as it is.

Thanks for your contributions. There are interesting things, like the ptol farm techs.

  • Iberians:
    • you propose to change the tree of techs in a specific way. That should be part of a big picture and needs to be discussed with the person mostly in charge of the balance.
    • take care of keeping always the same identation (in requirements for example)
    • sometimes a non specific name is better for json tech filename (see other techs)
    • take care of some affects like "units" as it could affects stuff you don't expect.
    • suzko_txabalina is incomplete and doesn't match the description (you need continuous damage patch)
  • Ptolemies:
    • why that line <BatchTimeModifier>0.7</BatchTimeModifier> in ProductionQueue ?
    • As for iberians you introduced specific techs in a tree of generic techs, why not but it should be part of a big picture. Moreover with all that multiplication there is balance discussion which should be see with the man in charge of the balance.
    • Pharaonic cult: you use an empty modification array. Instead of writting a tech wich is incomplete due to a missing feature, we should implement the feature then write the tech. There are too many TBD (sometimes not marked as TBD) wich mislead people. Moreover, the last time we tried to modify directly auras we encountered many weird issues (it can more or less be done with techs, but here it would be a big mess). So I would suggest to forget that for the moment.
    • Avoid stuff like "specificName" : { "ptol": "." } as it will be then forgotten and will stay for a while like that.

Else, imo special (in the sense they are civ specific) techs is imo a civ bonus and so that ticket is a duplicate of #4083. So I will close it as duplicate.

Ok, thx for your comments, fixed them on local.

As I said, I implemented Suzko Txabalina (like other implementations of the techs above I didn't upload) like that to make it something playable until the feature was fully implemented. I thought it could be a (temporary) way to fill the underdeveloped holes in the civs techs/bonuses, so the game doesn't give a bad impression to the players when they choose civs because tech or bonuses that doesn't work. Apart from the underdevelopment issues, I also thought that all civs should have their techs and bonuses implemented, be it the right or the temporary solutions, because it could turn out that people will always use the most developed ones, and cast aside those which most important skills are not implemented.

About balancing matters, I'm gonna implement all this techs (temporary or exact solutions) into a mod so you(apart from other changes on metagame I think this game needs to break with the current one) can test, discuss and decide about including those techs. Mod will be called MetaGameV2 and I'll post the URL once I upload it on the forum (if you don't mind).

Most of these techs will be implemented on the MetagameV2 mod I'm creating, so it can also be used as a testing tool for further discussion in gameplay design.
