[PATCH] Display History tooltips / descriptions in the tech tree

Description (last modified by elexis)

Most units and buildings have a History string which is currently unused and not translated.

The strings add to the immersion and educational aspect of the game. They should be shown in the structure tree, because that is typically opened when players take the time to become more educated about the things that are in our game. Since the history descriptions are entirely irrelevant to actual playing, they shouldn't be printed in the session (even if showdetailedtooltips).

We should review the strings though before releasing the kraken to transifex.

Without fixing the history texts (just glance at a few to get an idea of how abysmally bad they are (and that ignores checking them for correctness)) this should go nowhere.

The patch is most likely a duplicate of some work s0600204 did for an in-game encyclopedia (similar to what AoM had).

Also having to translate all of those will either require us to adjust our translation inclusion rules or kick out quite a few languages.

Did glance at a few, but didn't find them that bad. The request-for-comments was primarily a request for people to review and discuss the strings.

We could do it gradually and add 10 strings per week.

If you mean fixing them, sure. If you mean adding them to be translated, add all at once.

comment:5 by elexis, 7 years ago

Removing all of them at once. Marking all of them as translatable at once. Then adding acceptable ones progressively.
