+If you capture a bulding the defenders could damage you until it isn't yours. I don't see any bug here. If you damage the bulding before (hold shift while selecting it) you can capture it much faster.

 You have also to research upgrades in your blacksmith to get your units stronger. Also your normal (not elite) soldiers can level up if they kill enemies. There also elite Soldiers in phase 2 or 3 denpending on your nation.
 For better economy you also have to research upgrades on your storehouse. Build more storehouses to keep the way to your resources as less as possible.
 For faster training your units you can hold shift and select more units to train on one time.
 You have one dropdown to select the numer of player, and you have an extra dropdown for mapsize.
 What do you mean with that the athens have no foot soldiers? I think the athens have the strongest ones. They are the only nation that can build in pase 3 from any kind of foot soldiers elite units.
