#6150 closed enhancement (duplicate)

Increasing the maximum camera zoom in normal game mode

Description

A nice additional feature would be to increase the normal zoom level a little. There are some detailed animations users might find interesting to have a closer look at e.g. bolt shooters or catapults.

It is currently possible to zoom in closer with Alt+ D and toggle the "Restrict camera” option, but many users may not be aware that this developer overlay exists and it is not accessible in multiplayer games.

Another user nicknamed F-in-the-chat_ also expressed interest in this feature:
How do I increase the range of motion allowed by the camera (29/Apr/21)

When I finish a game against the ai I tend to observe the building and unit textures, but it is hard to really look at anything close up because of the camera restrictions

Ceres also expressed a desire for a way to increase the camera zoom.

Stan pointed out that you can zoom in a little closer by changing the default configuration. The name for increasing the zoom is mysteriously called zoom.min, and decreasing the zoom is zoom.max.

Since [12455], the speed of scrolling, rotating and zooming can already be adjusted via hotkeys. It seems one just needs to add an additional hotkey to increase/ decrease the zoom.

A good way to solve this problem would be to add an additional tab for Camera settings.

Unlikely to get done for A26

I think it shouldn't be the reason to add the feature to the game. Because it might lead to a new art that's more detailed (and more expensive) to fit the new zoom instead of increasing the overall quality.
