Description

We don't want our members (or ourselves) to have duplicate login info. We need to find a way to allow those with forum accounts to be able to log into WP and post comments, etc etc.

Now THIS I can have fun with! Going to need the database current schemas and exact version information for the forum software and WordPress. I can develop this on my own system.

This has been discussed so much time ago, so I don't know if it's a real priority actually. One way to achieve this is by using third-party software, which will probably be much safer than simply plugin WordPress or IPB.

Time ago I achieved a similar objective synchronizing users from Joomla, MediaWiki and phpBB forums. I could even share logins between them, meaning if a user logins in forums, he or she will be logged into MediaWiki or Joomla when he visits those sites.

This was achieved with JFusion Extension (GPL) a Joomla component which provides universal user integration. All is needed to do is install a fresh copy of Joomla without any demo data or similar, and config it to work as a user integration platform.

Resource-wise approach: totally disable, and possibly unistall, every other non core extension of Joomla for improved security and performance.
