Could you tell us how you tested it?

It might be the gamesetup GUI being wrong (especially when it remembers previous choices, it can happen it shows the previous choice, but actually selects a different one). Or it might be that the AI got stuck in a certain case.

Till alpha 17 you were right: if i started a new single player game, i had to re-set the AI difficulty manually on every new game.

So I always thought „ah again I forgot, that´s why it is so easy now“.

Still, even then I always made a 2nd game on very hard, verified the right setting, and always came to the conclusion: it´s a bug - very hard = medium = easier then "hard". I tested it thouroughly and it was clear: there just is no very hard difficulty.

So I hoped for the next version ;)

Now with alpha 18 testing is even easier - it saves the difficulty and all other game setting from session to session.

Still:

It is ultra easy to beat the very hard opponent (like the medium one), while it is much harder to stand up agains the „hard“ AI, oh well, at least 2 of them ;)

I tested on many maps in many different configurations.

Where the problem is I cannot tell you, but I suspect the GUI.

Do you test against several (non allied) AIs ? the way the AI chooses its target is still very basic: it always attack its strongest opponent. So if you stay way behind them, the AIs will kill each others and let you win without much difficulties, specially on very-hard where they can have stronger armies quickly. Could you test in 1 vs 1 ?

Usually I play only 1 vs 1.

Medium is for warm up, hard is to get some good practice but is not challenging anymore.

So I would like a Ultra Hard opponent, which is not available.

So now I often play against 2 hard enemies in one fixed team against me, which sometimes is too hard ;)

do a 1v1, play on hard, see if the enemy attacks with heavy siege weapons in big numbers and often. In Hard he will do. Now try the same in Very hard, and you will see that the numbers and quality of weapons will be much lower.

Or just let the game run for 30 minutes doing nothing, and watch his extension speed as he is spreading over the map (much slower in very hard, comparable to medium).

Apart from that, I reckonned that even in hard you can easily disturb the enemy in a way I´m not really into. Point is: after some heavy battle and losing some territoy, he basically just stops to do any real action against you, besides sometimes some occasionlly 5 units being sent to you, but the computer stops to built bigger armies. Dunno why that is. maybe because he lost his gathering point for the armies? cheers, Stefan

Next time you face this problem, can you save the game and upload it somewhere (possibly also uploading the commands.txt file from this game).
