Make pyrogenesis multithreaded

Description

The new features in 0.1.18 make pyrogenesis the ultimative bottleneck because it's single threaded and causes lags up to 5 seconds. top clearly shows that pyrogenesis is the reason.

I've seen a FAQ stating that this seems to be a regular issue occuring on mailing lists and forums, but I didn't find a ticket, so I'm bringing this up as an issue.

Tickets should be about a specific issue or enhancement, not about "make the game less laggy". And "make the game multithreaded" doesn't mean anything, several parts could be threaded (and we have tickets and/or TODOs for these), other parts can't.

There's non with multithread in the title so, that's not possible to find out easily. Can you link or mark as duplicate?
