#5251 new defect

small pathfinding issue with boats in narrow channels

Reported by: gyrokanth Owned by:
Priority: Should Have Milestone: Backlog
Component: Maps Keywords: pathfinding
Cc: Patch:

Description

Minimum width of water channel for pass-ability of medium warship (and similar sized boats) should be reduced to allow transit of smaller canals, looks unrealistic with present path fining even in deep-water, more narrow channels which would appear to permit boat passage.

Issue for maps featuring canals, strategic use of rivers, waterways and fjords.

So you want to have both maps and ships changed, or only maps, or only ships?

We just changed ships and according to our previous analysis, we didn't reduce their size further because their obstruction is square and they already overlap visually when being too close.

For that reason we thought about increasing cavalry (especially chariot) clearance too.

Every map is different, ideally unique. So if you say that canals are not passable, you have to mention the mapnames. Some of them are not intended to be passable, for example the irrigation canals (but sometimes are).

Change clearance of large land units from 4 to 3, clearance of large ships from 12 to 10. This makes these units far more usable.
