1111Ancient Greek is the language used for the Athenians, Macedonians, Ptolemies, Seleucids, and Spartans.
    1212
13There exist numerous systems to transcribe Greek; one is not intrinsically better than any other. However, consistency matters, so please stick to the system listed below:
     14* consonants:
     15  * β, π, φ → b, p, ph
     16  * γ, κ, χ → g, k, kh
     17  * δ, τ, θ → d, t, th
     18  * σ/ς, ζ, ξ, ψ → s, z, x, ps
     19  * λ, μ, ν → l, m, n
     20  * ρ → r, but initial ῥ → rh
21* vowels and diphthongs (use a dictionary to check vowel length):
     22  * α, αι, αυ, ᾱ, ᾳ, ᾱυ → a, ai, au, ā, āi, āu
     23  * ε, ει, ευ → e, ei, eu
     24  * η, ῃ, ηυ → ē, ēi, ēu
     25  * ι, ῑ → i, ī
     26  * ο, οι, ου → o, oi, ou
     27  * υ, υι, ῡ → u, ui, ū
     28  * ω, ῳ, ωυ → ō, ōi, ōu
29Other things to take care of:
30* accents are meaningful, therefore write the correct ones (which can change depending on position), differentiate between e.g. α, ά, ᾶ, ὰ.
31* names are in the nominative; also check the number (singular, dual, plural) and gender (masculine, feminine, neuter); adjectives should match the nouns
     32
    1333== Latin
1434Classical Latin is the language used for the Romans.
     35
1536Writing Latin is easy, because, well, it uses the Latin alphabet. However, check to ensure:
1637* dictionaries indicate vowel length, so do we; thus: ''hastātus'', not ''hastatus''

    1839* differentiate between u and v
1940* do not differentiate between i and j, both are written i
20 * names are in the nominative; also, adjectives ought to have the same gender as their nouns
41* names are in the nominative; also, adjectives should have the same gender as their nouns
2142* sometimes words are plural only, e.g. ''insidiae'' “ambush”; check the whole string has the proper number
