While playing a staff match, tooltips stopped showing, error messages stopped scrolling (though new messages were added), and music stopped playing. The rest of the UI worked, as far as I could tell. Not sure how to reproduce this.

It broke before any errors appeared and they were unrelated, see this comment. One other thing, it seems to have broken after I was taking snapshots near the end of the game, but long before resigning/defeat.
