On http://play0ad.com/game-info/features/ under "Unit formations:" change: (As of August 2012, this feature has not been implemented yet.) to (As of October 2014, this feature is currently disabled due to performance.)

If you are talking about formations they are still in the game, and the no formation options is ticked by default. But you can still use the other formations. Also, some tickets are related to them.

Quoting an IRC discussion : it was an experimental implementation which is disabled now. So I guess "still not implemented" is better, as it would probably need a complete rewrite.
