Description (last modified by fabio)

I think the main menu has been overdue for a refresh, so I updated it to only rely on the modern sprite/style libraries. I've attached a before and after screenshot and would appreciate your thoughts.

Before: Before

After: After

Personally I prefer the "before" style, and I also would like to see all GUI using it, removing also modern style from everywhere. Whatever style is choose, anyway, I think it should be used for all the GUI, we shouldn't have two styles, they look inconsistent IMO.

But ideally, both styles should define the same names for styles/sprites (having the modern style named ModernSomething is really bad) and be placed in different directories. Changing style would then just be changing a pointer so we could let the user choose its preferred one, and mods could easily implement their own style, we could even have "mod style". All gui would then be automatically consistent if the pointer to the chosen style is global.

I'm more a fan of the 'after' style. But if I agree that there shouldn't be 2 styles around indeed.

I guess it´d be nice to be able to use one or the other ( That would also allow changing backgrounds see #2993)

I prefer the second style.

In the meeting we decided to hold this off until A19 and run the design by some people more familiar with graphic design.

I don't like. To much separated between the buttons, tiny, the color buttons don't match with the other elements.

Look, my Aristeia version , more classic , elegant, based in Rome II menu and actual style, I planned change font to more Roman look like frintz Quadrata http://i.imgur.com/Q5wVDEw.png

The buttons are actually the same size as they are now.

I don't mean to add more work, but having multiple styles available like some other games would be nice

Replying to thamlett:

Great point, but I feel like that's really the purpose of mods. We just don't have the manpower to build more then one cohesive style (and even that one seems to be difficult).
