Pathfinding: Units stuck around a building even after move order. Might be related for formation.

Description

The screenshot shows a group of units on the left and some units stuck around a building.

  • All the units were given the same order to go left.
  • Some of them were stuck.
  • Some with fast animation, some with slow animation, some with no animation.
    • (I don't know if it's an issue or if that helps understanding the cause of the stucking/stuckage/I'm bad at English)

I'm not sure if they weren't actually stuck before the order was given to move left. They didn't unstuck after a more than 20 seconds. I've noticed previously in this game that stucking happened and after 5 seconds the AI found it's way. That's why I waited.

To see that, follow the player tuxayo until 1:04:50.

misc info: The units had heterogeneous formations so they don't handle move orders in the same way. That might be it, the stuck group *seems* to have the unique characteristic of being in square formation.

@tuxayo: is this a replay on the development version or on Alpha 23 release?

Based on the screenshot, it looks related to #5586 but I'll investigate further.

Edit -> It's Alpha 23, which probably explains the "Some with fast animation, some with slow animation, some with no animation" comment. I'll try and reproduce #5586 with formations specifically, but this seems to indicate that that ticket isn't actually a regression.

Edit2 -> Can't reproduce anything other than #5586 with formations, even mixed formations. Phab:rP22447 mentions "This fixes formation members being stuck in-place when they run in an obstruction", which sounds like this, and the animation issue is also fixed by unitMotion rewrite (no patches to report though).

Given that we already have #5586, I'm marking this as fixed in Alpha 24.

@wraitii I can try to play constantly on the development version. That would make my bug reports more useful right?

Given that we already have #5586, I'm marking this as fixed in Alpha 24.
