Description

Validating e-mail is not so simple.

Ive tried to registered today at forum and entered mail at "ukr.net" server, but Ive got no mails there (of course I`ve checked Spam folder). When I clicked "Resend Validation" it asked me to sign in but then also nothing. Also i cannot change my email due to security permissions.

Thanks God here I have permissions to change email (ukr.net mailbox also got no mails). When I entered "gmail.com" mailbox I`ve got 1 mail to Spam folder, but it was something I can manage with.

It would be fine to check why I`ve got no mails on first mailbox and give permission to edit profile (just email) in forum profile for newly registered users, because ability to post here gave me some headache.

P.S. Sorry for my English.

Priority: Should HaveNice to Have

Sorry for quick posting, I`ve got mail into my first mailbox, but I had to wait for nearly four hours to get it. Maybe it should be checked - where is the problem?

Sounds like a problem with the mail server you're using, unless other people are having the same problem.

Mail server is working fine for many years, but maybe there were some problems. But as I menthioned it was very strange that I couldn`t change my mail before I validate it. If user makes mistake he can do nothing.

Some times ago, a guy had a similar problem (read him on IRC).

He did not received the mail with hotmail-outlook (it was according to him probably a problem cause by the fact that he didn't used this mail for a long time).

He would have been helped if it was possible to change the mail address to put a working one. (and it limit the possibility that the one who has this type of problem create a new account to put a new mail, but loosing his login).

So maybe it could be interesting to add a feature where you can change the mail address where the validation mail is send (of course if you have your login and password). A limit like 3 changes could help avoiding abuses.

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

Since this bug was reported, the play0ad.com website has undergone a migration to a completely different server and datacenter, which has probably resolved this issue. It is unlikely that the original problem persists, but I cannot reproduce this as I don't have access to a "ukr.net" e-mail account. If there are still problems with receiving e-mail from the forum, please let us know. For now, I'm closing this ticket.
