It would be nice to have the ability to ping a location on the minimap and/or map and have that ping notify allies and/or enemies ("stay out of this area if you know what's good for you!"), to indicate critical issues.
It would just be a right click on the minimap that would trigger a sound and white concentric circles (could be color coded - red for attack, blue for scout, green to occupy etc). A similar actor could be represented at the location of the ping on the actual map.
Possible additional features
- Make a ping limit so user cannot spam the command.
- Make different versions ? So user can give different informations.
- Differentiate pings of different players.

I know it's no RTS, but League of Legends introduced a so-called smart ping feature which greatly simplified team communication. Pressing a hotkey shows pie chart like assembled buttons; you then need to click left, drag the cursor in the direction of the specific ping you want to send and release the mouse button. This action is not done on the minimap but team members will see it there.
Similarly we could implement different pings, e.g. Help me, Stop that / Be careful, I'm coming here, Place building here (e.g. market, fortress, CC, ...), Scout here and a general ping. The question is if pings should be visible if shared vision isn't unlocked yet.

This should be easy to implement and the demand is noisy (at least 3 people tried patches and more asking for this feature), so I guess it would be reasonable and feasible to put an end to this request in the following release.

This doesn't seem to be mentioned in the ticket, but it would be really awesome if this could function in a multiplayer game.
Edit: the description implies this is intended for multiplayer games, just wanted to clarify.
