forum users not getting notified of replies — at Initial Version

Description
I've received a few replies to my forum posts, but only one email notification. I believe that was the post where I didn't click the box next to "notify me of replies". My first post, I forgot to check the box, but clicked "follow" after I posted.
I'm not sure yet though.
But if I'm right, a user would only get notified of replies if he clicks the "follow" link, but not if he or she clicks the "notify of replies" option.
