Description (last modified by )
Currently, unit silhouettes are always rendered, no matter how far away, as long as a unit would be in sight if it was not hidden behind something. Normally, this is not a big problem, because by default, the camera points quite straight downward and units far away are not visible anyway.
In maps with high altitude differences, this becomes a problem. I have attached a screenshot from Sahyadri Buttes. The camera is on top of a mountain in the middle of the map and points towards my own base. You can see blue silhouettes of my units and all the animals (I can even control my units, but this might be yet another ticket). I suggest that silhouettes are hidden if the units causing them are too far away from the camera, like it was done with shadows in this alpha. This would save some calculating power (I understand unit silhouettes are very demanding from a calculation perspective). This also makes the visuals better because the view on the game is not impaired by a lot of silhouettes that are too far away to be relevant.
