#2432 closed defect (fixed)

Menu button rollover works but with no response

Description

I use a 64 bit on Mac OS 10.6.8 and I can't easily quit the game. The menu rollover works as a button but does not respond with a drop down menu. It took 5 mins to quit today and yesterday. I closed my computer into sleep mode and eventually just got lucky rolling my mouse over and over the menu button. ESC also doesn't work as a command but should also be an option.

Are you possibly using a retina screen? Iirc that has caused similar issues in the past.

No retina screen. Mac book Pro 15inch from 2010.

I have also noticed this. The game sometimes ignores clicking on the button triggering the drop-down menu, a behaviour unchanged over the past few alpha releases. I have also known the game to ignore presses of the 'diplomacy' button, although I generally have less reason to press that so I can't say if it happens with the same frequency.

It's not such a problem for me as I get round it by pressing F10 - although that only works when I have the game set to fullscreen. (By default on OSX, when nothing is set to fullscreen an F10 keypress activates the "Expose" functionality.)

I run 0ad on a White Macbook, circa 2008, running OSX 10.6.8 "Snow Leopard".

I notice that in default.cfg, the Esc key is assigned to hotkey.leave. However, pressing it in-game does not have the effect described in the line's comment ("End current game or Exit").

Could you test if this still occurs in windowed mode? (Alt+Enter)

[...] still occurs [...]

You mean that this has been a problem before?

But no, after some experimentation I find that the problem only manifests itself whilst the game is at fullscreen - and only when the click occurs on the upper 2/3 of the button; If I try the lower 1/3, I get the menu. The same holds true for the 'diplomacy' and 'speed' buttons to the left of the menu.

Curiously enough, the top 2/3s of the button sits where part of the OSX menubar would be if the game wasn't at fullscreen... http://s06eye.co.uk/img4forum/crossfade.png ...but I don't know whether that's relevant or just coincidence.

Can you try to find an other fullscreen app that has a button there, and see if that button in that other app works?

Hmm... an application that can run at fullscreen and has a button in the top right corner of the screen...

I've tried Firefox, Myst 5 Demo, Gunpoint (via wineskins) and Parallels (in both 'Fullscreen' and 'Coherance' modes); and the buttons and other UI elements that are either placed or end up being at the top of the screen all function as expected.

I also looked at Steam's 'Big Picture' and LibreOffice, but their fullscreen modes don't place any buttons far enough up the screen.

I can't think of any other applications I could try for the moment. I may think of others later.

I have tried to reproduce this bug in the new A17 release on OSX 10.6.8, and I am pleased to say that I am no longer affected by it! Yay!

As far as I am concerned this bug has been fixed, but I personally would like someone else to try it and confirm before it is marked as closed.

On the other hand, I mentioned previously that my personal workaround was to use F10 to toggle the menu. This no longer works as this is now passed straight to OSX and triggers the "Expose" functionality instead. (I guess some players who prefer using key-shortcuts rather than the mouse might find this annoying, but it doesn't really bother me)
