Description
In ubuntu unity no menu is displayed in Atlas when run from 0ad or from the commandline with binaries/system/pyrogenesis -editor
A workaround is this:
export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0
It may be related to the order window creation/forking. gvim has the same problem, and I think they fixed it with this: http://code.google.com/p/vim/source/detail?r=3ecf9e91d88acdb5eaaf93cc15a18914b60e0eb3

I can't reproduce this on Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity. Do you mean the Atlas file menu is missing? For me, these menus are always hidden in Ubuntu's window manager and you have to hover the name of the application at the top of the screen to see them.

Actually my windowmanager is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, sorry. I know about the hovering on the top bar, but I don't get the application menu there either. I may have changed some settings as almost all applications have their own menus. Wanted to present a solution in case someone else also has it.

Ah OK, I can't test on 12.04 LTS, I'll rename this ticket accordingly.

After upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04.1 LTS, I still can't reproduce this. Maybe try updating all your packages to see if a bug was fixed, or if you have any custom settings that might be causing this (perhaps in CompizConfig Settings Manager?) The only setting I've altered was disabling the Alt-key Unity HUD shortcut, but even reverting that change, the Atlas menu still works.

Actually after some more investigation I'm convinced the gvim problem is not exactly the same. This is the error that I see 3x when running `binaries/system/pyrogenesis -editor' from the console:
This error is shown while closing atlas
